"No matter what, give the world a smile, and it'll smile right back at you."
~Maurice [source]

Maurice (born as Bricky) is a major character in the Madagascar franchise. He is an aye-aye lemur and King Julien's royal advisor and right-hand man. He is a side character in the films, The Penguins of Madagascar, and the deuteragonist of All Hail King Julien.

History[]

Biography[]

According to Masikura, when Princess Julienne and Prince Barty went camping in the middle of the jungle near the Aye-Aye kingdom, Prince Julien, who was still a baby, crawled out of the tent and went around the jungle to look for the source of a mysterious sound. And then he found a baby named Maurice who was placed on a piece of a blue blanket with a bell on him.

it was later revealed by Brosalind that the only reason why he was left in the middle of the jungle was because he was the Chosen One, and it was told that, after The Chosen One was born there would be an amazing feast, and then he would be sacrificed to the Bell Gods in order for the Aye-Ayes to achieve peace and prosperity since he is the Chosen One.

All Hail King Julien[]

He is one of Julien's sidekicks, along with Clover and Mort. He is often trying to get King Julien to abort his foolish plans. He is the royal adviser and the best friend of King Julien. With the help of Mort and Clover, he was able to save King Julien from various enemies, while helping him become a better king.

Throughout the series, their bond is shown as strong and unwavering, though it is tested several times. Their unbreakable friendship is spotlighted in two episodes in particular:

  1. True Bromance (Episode)
  2. I, Maurice

Maurice’s loving and caring nature towards Julien is shown throughout the series, as he comforts him in hard times and is always on his side.

Madagascar[]

Maurice is the royal advisor of King Julien. He's the brain of the lemurs and was the only one to think there was a reason to fear Alex as the Fossa did.

Madagascar: Escape 2 Africa[]

Maurice joins King Julien and Mort when leaving Madagascar. His role is not that significant, other than aiding King Julien in his hair-brained scheme in sacrificing Melman into a volcano to bring water to the dehydrated creatures of Africa. He remains in Africa with the others while the penguins and the chimps leave for Monte Carlo.

Madagascar 3: Europe's Most Wanted[]

By Madagascar 3, apparently, Maurice feels exasperated and stifled by King Julien. When King Julien fell off the edge of a building in Monte Carlo, he was the only one who started to smile, looking hopeful. He had a much closer relationship with Mort in Madagascar 3. When King Julien survived, he looked disappointed.

He attempted to keep King Julien from pulling the switch before he needed to during the casino break-in. He was dancing with Julien while Mort was repeatedly pulling the switch.

At the circus, he and Mort took on the act of ribbon dancing.

He was last seen dancing with everyone to "Afro Circus/I Like to Move It".

Personality[]

Maurice is more intelligent than King Julien, Mort and most of the other lemurs combined. He does not share the other two lemurs' bad cases of the "stupids" (natural stupidity). He is more grounded than any of the other lemurs or penguins. He is extremely loyal to King Julien and is like an older brother to Mort. This was shown in Right Hand Man when he helped the penguins stop Clemson from getting rid of Julien, and in Operation: Plush and Cover when he was incredibly happy when the penguins rescued Mort. He usually thinks King Julien is bizarre, but he also loves dancing and parties, assisting the king with his insane and selfish plans, and is entirely loyal to him.

Through out All Hail King Julien, he does all he is able to support King Julien and continues to help him during his reign. As a member of King Julien's royal circle, Maurice acts as a loyal advisor and assists King Julien to help mould him into a great king. It was his wise advice and the help of Clover which moulded King Julien to a great king. Hence, Maurice could be classed as an extremely wise and witty character.
